What to do in Moscow during the World Cup

What are the best tourist attractions in Moscow? That’s a question you’ll be asking yourself if you travel to Russia for the World Cup.

Obviously, the purpose of your trip is the World Cup, but, if you’re staying for more than a day, attending matches will only take up a small portion of your time in Russia. You’re going to have to occupy yourself somehow, and Moscow provide plenty of tourist attractions to keep you busy.

What to see

Moscow is known for its one of a kind architecture. Some of the sights you have to see are Moscow Kremlin, Red Square, and Saint Basil’s Cathedral. All of these places were built in very unique architectural styles that are representative of the city and its culture throughout history. To make the best use of your time, which may be limited, you book a ticket on a tour that visits all of these site and even more beautiful and historic works of architecture. Booking a tour is also a great way to simplify your traveling within the city because someone else will do all the driving for you.

What to do

If you’re looking for some excitement, Gorky Park, an amusement park coupled with an open-air movie theater is sure to tickle your fancy. Especially if you’re travelling with someone who isn’t all that excited about the World Cup, this could be something fun for them to be.

What to eat

As with any modern metropolis, Russia has plenty of food worth tasting. Grand Café Dr. Jhivago is a swanky eatery that specializes in former dinners. Reservations are required, and they serve delectable authentic Russian cuisine. Mari Vanna is less formal, (it’s described as a living room style dining venue and includes decorations that you’d expect in a living room like lamps and bookshelves) but the food is just as good (and also a little cheaper than Dr. Jhivago’s). Be advised, you can only pay in cash at Mari Vanna. If you’re getting homesick, Boston Seafood Bar is the place to go for a casual dining experience and American meals.

While in Russia, do as the Russians do. Explore the cities. Eat where the locals eat, and have a good time!
